Twelve teams of floor curling teams from the region with 48 participants descended on Endiang on April 29 for a Bonspiel hosted by the local club at the Endiang Community Hall.

Bonspiel champions were a tie between Dennis Hartman of Bawlf and Doug Harrold of Endiang. It was also a tie for third/fourth, with the honours split between Joe Hogg of Bawlf and Anna Brady of Stettler.

Draw prizes were won by Julie Derbyshire of Hanna, Marj Wells of Stettler and Cindy Pratt of Strome.

Participating teams came from clubs in Bawlf, Strome, Stettler, Halkirk, Botha and Endiang. The lunch meal was catered by Shelly Grover.

This bonspiel wraps up floor curling for the season in Endiang. Curling will resume again in the fall.

A Memorial Service is being held for Jamie Harden on Tuesday, May 14 at the Harden Ranch arena west of Byemoor. Jamie passed away unexpectedly on February 4 at the age of 39 years while in Arizona.

Contributions of lunch by community members for the Jamie Harden memorial service would be appreciated. For those not planning to attend the service, lunch items may be dropped off at the Byemoor Community Hall and put in the cooler between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. and they will be taken to the service.

Treat Mom on her special day with breakfast out at the Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast at the Endiang Community Hall from 9 – 11 a.m. Breakfast is sponsored by the Endiang Board of Trade and funds will go towards purchasing flowers to beautify the hamlet.

Members, leaders and parents of the Byemoor 4-H Beef Club participated in the Highway Clean-up on May 4. The locals cleaned a section of Highway 589 near Byemoor. Thank you to all involved in making our area look better. It is much appreciated.

The Scapa Cake Bingo is on Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. at the Scapa Community Hall. The cost to play is by donation.

Perhaps you may be the lucky winner of some baked goodies for Mother’s Day.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Helen Schmidt, a life-long resident of the Scapa - Dowling Lake area, who passed away on April 29 in Drumheller at the age of 96 years. Helen (nee Weich) and her late husband David farmed west of Dowling Lake and raised four sons - Lawrence, Les, Marvin and Gerald.

A graveside service was held for Helen on May 4 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Scapa. Our thoughts are with the Schmidt family during their time of loss.

Condolences are sent to the family of Clara Fowler who passed away on April 30 at the age of 66 years. Clara (nee Nichols) was a lifelong resident of the Castor and Halkirk communities. Clara and her husband Dan Fowler farm south of Halkirk where they raised their family of four children – Justin, Amanda, Dean and Lee. Our thoughts are with the Fowler family in their very sad loss.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Clara on Thursday, May 9 at the Halkirk Community Hall at 2 p.m.

The hamlet of Byemoor bids farewell to Tristan and Candice van Zandbergen, who are moving to Forestburg. A couple from Ontario has purchased their home. Wishing you all the best in your new location, Tristan and Candice.

Remember the Bridal Shower for Allison Yates, future bride of Jacob Yasinski, is coming up on Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall.
