Library corner: Come for a byte

It can be challenging to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology.

If your idea of high-tech is talking on a cordless phone, you might benefit from one of our upcoming information workshops for seniors, Come for a Byte, either Tuesday, April 23 or the following Tuesday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A bite of lunch will be provided. Bring your smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device for hands-on discovery of how to navigate this fascinating world.

Stettler Adult Learning Centre experts will be on hand to answer your questions. Call the library to pre-register.

Children:

We have so much happening at Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Have a blast making Seed Bombs on Thursday, April 18.

Going to the garden to eat worms? Come make edible Worms in Mud on Tuesday, April 23.

On Thursday, April 25, we’ll make it rain with shaving cream! Ages 6 and up.

When school is out, the library is in! Join us for a 1 p.m. matinee of Rumble on Friday, April 26. We’ll follow up the show with a Lego challenge, and a movie-themed craft. Ages 6 and up.

Introduce your little ones (0-5 yrs) to a love of language and literature at Read and Rhyme every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. We offer small prizes when you reach your family reading goals if you sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. Ask our staff for details.

To finish the school year strong, consider making an appointment for one-on-one tutoring, available Mondays, 4-6 p.m. or Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4-8 p.m. Call us for the details.

Teens and ’Tweens:

Come “sew” something cute for spring!

We’ll be making felted flowers on Wednesday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. Ages 10 and up.

Jasper invites young people aged 13 and up to Dungeons & Dragons Night each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Snacks are provided to fuel your adventures!

Adults:

Join Crystal’s Crafting Club as we try our hand at the timeless craft of embroidery on Thursday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. Pre-register, please.

At Afternoon Friends, we play games, do crafts, and enjoy movies together. If this sounds like it’s up your alley, join us on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. On April 23, we’ll play Bingo. And yes, there are small prizes.

Meet with other local writers to share your creative writing and receive feedback at Writers’ Club. We meet on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy each other’s work. Open to all wordsmiths, published or unpublished.

The fine art of crochet is always in season. Join Crystal at Crystal’s Crochet Club on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. to learn the basics, pick up new techniques, or simply work on your latest project with fellow yarn enthusiasts. Knitters and other yarn artists are welcome!

There’s still time to pick up a copy of Greenwood, Michael Christie’s award-winning novel and this month’s book club selection. Join Readers’ Circle on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book.

If you face the challenge of living with someone addicted to alcohol, you may need the support and coping strategies that Al-Anon can offer. We meet Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. to offer encouragement and understanding.

Is someone in your life struggling with cognitive decline? Minds in Motion, developed by the Alzheimer Society, is held on Thursdays at 1 p.m. and is designed to help preserve mental function with light exercise, games, and social interaction. Caregivers are welcome, too.

All Ages:

What could be better for Lego enthusiasts than a giant collection of Lego and like-minded friends? Join the fun on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. Ages 6+.

Are you looking for something that the family could do on a Saturday morning? Come and join us for Tales at 11, which starts at 11 a.m. There will be stories, games and so much more! Then stock up on books for the week ahead.

Meet up with gamers from Rocky Mountain House and Stettler for a night of online games on Mondays from 8-9:30 p.m. To join the group chat, call the library for the link.

Super Smash Bros. Tournament happens on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. Play as your favourite Nintendo character and see if you can endure to the end.
